Ron Rogers, a native of Richmond, Virginia, grew up mindful of history and politics, which has helped him in his career.

He is a freelance editorial cartoonist and illustrator.  At various times in his career, Ron has worked as the editorial cartoonist at the South Bend Tribune and as a freelance editorial cartoonist, as well as an editorial cartoonist while working as a graphics editor, graphics director and assistant design editor/graphics at various newspapers in Alabama, Louisiana and Indiana.

Ron has established himself as an innovator:
*Twice a month he created a cartoon for a popular caption contest at the South Bend Tribune in Indiana. The person who submitted the winning caption received the cartoon. Many of his cartoons created excitement. For instance, some families entered in an effort just to obtain his cartoons.
*He produced a blog with cartoons for the South Bend Tribune that had become the second most viewed blog on the site.
*He created opinion page cartoons and specific illustrations for The Tribune and the paper’s website, including creating illustrations linked to politics and elections for the Internet that were used in galleries. He has created numerous online sketchbooks, too, capturing events, such as when President Obama visited a nearby Indiana county to announce federal stimulus grants.
*While at The News-Sentinel in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he created and developed his idea of a weekly page of small cartoons summarizing the week’s local, state, national and international news. It was called “That Was the Week That Was.” For The Tribune, it was called “Rewind: The Week in Review.”

He started his career as a freelance editorial cartoonist for The Richmond Afro-American and Planet in 1980. His editorial cartoons have appeared in numerous weeklies throughout the South, also.

He has received numerous editorial cartoonist awards, including two statewide awards in Louisiana and three statewide awards in Indiana while working with the South Bend Tribune. He also received national recognition for cartooning from the Suburban Newspapers of America. In addition, he has won illustration awards.
