Road Trip1 Back in the spring, I took several day trips. One of them I took across the N.C. border into, Virginia, my home state, to Danville, Virginia. It was a nice drive going there. I like driving the back roads, seeing rural North Carolina. I always have a sketchbook with me. This goes back to when I was 12 years old in Richmond. On a bus ride I would observe things I saw, then when I got home I drew what interested me. I did this on my trip to Danville. I was amazed at the amount of Confederate flags that were flying on houses along the way, but the worst was yet to come when I got to Danville. Near the mall on a high hill overlooking the area, I saw the biggest confederate flag I’ve ever seen in my life in a yard on top of the hill. Down the hill and across from this rebel site was a car dealership. It had 20 or 30 American flags surrounding the cars. I guess the flags were there to counter the huge rebel flag. There was a good side to the visit: I had lunch at a great barbecue restaurant called the Checkered Pig.

Chronicle Toon: A recent N.C poll gave 70% percent support to Gov. McCrory on his decision to sign the controversial HB2 bill. If these numbers hold up he could squeak through to a second term in November.
